In Windows its really easy, just press Alt-164 and the ñ pops out. Unfortunately that does not work in Linux.
I do it in Linux is by to adding a character palette (character map is the Windows equivalent) to the menu bar.
In Gnome,
- Right click the top main menu and the applet dialog appears.
- Scroll down and look for Character Palette.
- Click to highlight Character Palette and then click
and the Character palette will be added to the Main Menu. - Click close.
- Click the ñ in the Character Palette and that will copy it to the clipboard.
- Use
or Cntrl V to paste ñ to Open Office or a Web form.
You can also use this method for other characters.
Please check this article for other way of adding extended characters http://www.linux.com/feature/122167.
